Feldene is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory prescription medication. It’s usually indicated to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It may also be used for some other purposes, not mentioned here. It’s unknown exactly how the drug works, but is supposed to block particular substances in a body, responsible for inflammation. NSAIDs reduce pain and inflammation, but do not cure the disease. It’s not the first option for treating the above mentioned health problems.
Do not use the medication in the following cases:
Being allergic to Feldene and its ingredients;
Severe allergy to other NSAIDs or aspirin;
Recent bypass heart surgery;
3rd month of pregnancy;
Contact your doctor if any of above mentioned relate to you. Before you start the treatment, mention the following:
If you are currently taking other medications, including prescription and nonprescription, vitamins and various supplements;
If you are allergic to certain food or substances;
High blood pressure;
Mention about all drugs you are currently consuming, as many of them can easily interact with Feldene. Ask your doctor for more detailed information.
The medication should be taken the way your pharmacist has prescribed. Carefully read the medication guide, which goes together with the tablets. Read it each time you get the refill of the drug. Consume it by mouth. If you have poor stomach, you may take it with food. In case of persistent cases of upset stomach, talk with the doctor. Take it with a full glass of water. If you miss a dose of the drug, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s already time to take the next dose, skip the missed one and return to a normal schedule. Do not consume extra doses to catch up.
As any other drugs, this one has a number of side effects, both common and serious. You may experience headache, diarrhea, heartburn and dizziness. You may also face serious side effects, such as skin rash, hives, swollen face, chest pain, stroke, decreased urination, black stools, etc. To get a complete list of side effects, you need to contact your healthcare provider.
If you overdose, you may get drowsiness, fatigue, stomach pain, vomiting and stomach bleeding. In some rare cases taking too much of the medication may result in kidney failure, hypertension or even coma.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
This drug is not recommended to use while being pregnant or breastfeeding a baby. Especially it relates to the 3rd trimester. If you take it during this time, the medication can delay labor, increase its length and cause a number of other complications. According to some evidence, it’s not good to consume NSAIDs if you are trying to conceive. Feldene may reduce your fertility and increase the risks of getting miscarriage and various malformations. The medicine passes into the breast milk in small amounts. The manufacturer doesn’t recommend using it for breastfeeding mothers.
